To make a hero, you open the 'Heroes' tab and go into the 'Hero Library'.
In the editor, if making a leader, you start with making a hero, then you add a few things to make it a proper leader. A leader is a hero with a few properties added. I appreciate any corrections about this being a previously encountered issue, but I cannot find any evidence of such, let alone a solution.There's not much difference between a leader and a hero in AoW III. Thus I am left boggled and defeated, so I seek any comments or advise as to why my old disk copy of AoW II works fine with high level heroes, but this downloaded expansion has seemingly changed the rules on me. It is also worth noting the expansion's "Place Random hero" feature will not work with heroes beyond level 2. to try and make it more likely they will spawn heroes, and physically placing heroes in the world (this so far is the only way they will appear). Other things I have tried thus far include making test heroes and adjusting levels just to try them during game play, making heroes directly in the map rather than in a library, tweaking my wizards skills, stats, known spells, etc. Even the GAMES level 3 and up heroes wont spawn! This leads me to believe that the expansion has changed the way hero levels affect spawning, or my Steam download is just buggy!
Seems level 1 and level 2 heroes will spawn, but my heroes (all level 5 or above) wont. I have even gone so far as to remove my own heroes and only try vanilla heroes and something interesting caught on to my observations. I am usually self sufficient enough to solve little glitches like this, but I have spent all week tweaking and derping around online to see what went wrong with this expansion. In this expansion, what seems to be happening is: I make a library, I fill it with hand crafted heroes of awesomeness, I put said heroes into maps, I cannot Call Hero, nor will any appear. In the base game what has always happened is: I make a library, I fill it with hand crafted heroes of awesomeness, I put said heroes into maps, I enjoy wreaking havoc when I play games. The trouble is that the expansion seems to be a bit buggy for me concerning player made heroes. I have played AoW II for years and heavily used the map editor as opposed to playing the campaign.
I am having my first interactions with Shadow Magic for the first time this week now that I finally got it on Steam.
